Consett face a third away tie in a row in the FA Vase – against another North West Counties League opponent

Consett were handed a third successive away tie in today’s draw for the FA Vase 3rd Round – but we’ll have to wait to find out our opponents.

We will travel to face the winners of the Northwich Victoria v Wythenshawe Town game, which is being replayed on Tuesday night after they drew 5-5 after extra time at the weekend.

Both clubs are members of the North West Counties League, as were Irlam, who we beat 5-2 on Saturday to reach this stage.

Northwich Victoria – not to be confused with breakaway club 1874 Northwich – are 10th in the NWCL Premier Division, while Wythenshawe Town are 8th in the NWCL 1st Division South.

Northwich were leading 5-2 in the first tie on Saturday, but Wythenshawe earned a replay with a spirited second-half comeback.

Cheshire-based Northwich, who are run by their supporters, play their home games at Wincham Park, the home of Northern Premier League side Witton Albion FC.

Last season they finished 4th in their league and reached the FA Vase semi-final, before losing on penalties to eventual winners Chertsey Town.

Wythenshawe play at the Ericstan Stadium at Wythenshawe, south Manchester, and finished 5th in their league last year. If they reach the 3rd Round it would be their best-ever FA Vase run.

Consett have never met either of their prospective opponents.

Three of the other four remaining Northern League teams have away ties in the 3rd Round. The exception is West Auckland, who are at home to Yorkshire Amateur.

Hebburn Town are away to Liverpool side Lower Breck, who knocked out Shildon at the weekend, while Newcastle Benfield face a trip to Cheshire to play Vauxhall Motors.

Like us, Stockton Town face a wait to find out their opponents, but will travel to Yorkshire, to play either Selby Town or Bridlington Town (who knocked us out last season).

The games are scheduled to be played on Saturday 30 November, which means our league game v Newcastle Benfield is postponed, and will now take place on Saturday 28 December.
