Cake Corner grabs a slice of the action by sponsoring two Consett players and taking a Belle View board

Cake Corner is the latest local business to get behind Consett AFC by sponsoring two players and taking a pitchside advertising banner for next season.

The vintage tearoom and ice cream parlour, run by Consett supporter Jason Barron and his fiancee Joanne Algeo, will be sponsoring Luke Carr and Darren Holden for 2020-21.

It will also have a pitchside advert at Belle View Stadium which will be seen by thousands of people who use the facility every week, as well as on matchdays.

Based at 1A Aynsley Terrace, Consett, Cake Corner has been in business for two years, with its official ribbon-cutting opening carried out by Consett AFC chairman Frank Bell!

It has built a fine reputation thanks to its friendly staff and great cakes, and has been open for takeaway treats throughout the Covid-19 crisis.

Last season was Cake Corner’s first as a club backer, sponsoring Darren Holden.

“We are sponsoring Darren again, and, after his excellent season, decided to sponsor Luke as well,” said Jason.

Commercial manager Peter Foster said: “It’s great to see local businesses like Cake Corner becoming club sponsors, and their backing is very much appreciated.

“Most of the squad are still available to sponsor for 2021-21, and at £100 it’s great value – especially as you get your player’s shirt at the end of the season!”
