Consett’s neighbours Tow Law step in at short notice after Newcastle Benfield pull out of friendly

Consett’s opponents for tonight’s pre-season friendly will now be Tow Law Town, after our scheduled visitors Newcastle Benfield pulled out.

The Tynesiders said they were unable to field a team for the game at Belle View, but after an appeal on social media the Lawyers got in touch to fill the gap.

They were supposed to be entertaining Newton Aycliffe in a friendly, but after today’s heavy rain did not want to risk damaging their pitch ahead of a busy schedule of home games.

Kick-off at Belle View Stadium is 7.30pm, with admission priced at £7 for adults, £5 for OAPs and £3 for under-16s.

It’s the clubs’ first meeting since August 2020, when Consett won 1-0 in a friendly at Belle View with a close-range header from Ali Alshabeeb.

The game will bring Ryan McKinnon, who returned to Consett over the summer, up against the team who he captained to promotion to the Northern League’s 1st Division.
