Consett pull out a plum home tie in FA Cup against Bradford Park Avenue

Consett were handed a tasty home tie in today’s FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round draw, against former Football League club Bradford Park Avenue.

The game will take place at Belle View Stadium on Saturday 2 September, with a 3pm kick-off, which means our NPL fixture that day v North Ferriby United will be rescheduled.

Bradford will be tough opponents, as they play in the NPL Premier Division, having been relegated from the National League North at the end of last season.

The clubs have met in the FA Cup before, in the 2nd Qualifying Round back in 2015-16, when Colin Myers’ Consett side were narrowly beaten 2-1 at Belle View, despite a three-division difference between the clubs.

Two of the present Consett squad – Calvin Smith and Ryan McKinnon – were in the Steelmen’s starting line-up that day, while a third, Matty Slocombe, came on as a substitute.

Consett were leading through a Dan Hawkins goal – the celebrations are pictured top – before Bradford levelled with eight minutes to go and grabbed the winner in the fifth minute of added time.

The game was played in front of a bumper crowd of 616, which is still one of the Top 10 attendances recorded since we moved to Belle View almost 10 years ago.
