Consett miss chance to go top of the table as Ossett United stage smash and grab raid

Consett missed the chance to go top of the NPL Division One East today as they lost 2-1 to Ossett United at Belle View Stadium.

They dominated throughout, but fell victim to a smash and grab raid by their lowly visitors, who scored with their only two shots on target.

The Steelmen missed a multitude of chances and were made to pay for it in a game where all the goals came in the last few minutes.

Right-back Josh Baggs came close to scoring in the 18th minute when his dipping half volley came back off the post.

Ossett keeper Joe Green also made good saves from Jack Gibbons, Wil Shaw and Scott Fenwick as Consett dominated the first half, but it ended goalless.

Shaw and Fenwick missed further chances for Consett after the break, and a draw looked on the cards until TJ Ibrahim finished from close range on 86 minutes to put Ossett ahead.

Scott Fenwick levelled for Consett in the 90th minute when he turned and fired home in a crowded penalty area.

But it was Ossett who grabbed the winner in the fourth of eight added minutes when Janni Lipka found the top corner from 25 yards.
