Consett back in play-off place after good away win at Cleethorpes Town

Consett returned to winning ways and a play-off place today after a good 3-1 away win at Cleethorpes Town.

Three goals in 10 minutes put the Steelmen in the driving seat, and although the hosts scored early in the second half, their visitors managed the rest of the game well to head home with three points.

Scott Fenwick gave Consett the lead on the half-hour with a looping header from an excellent Jake Orrell cross. It was the big striker’s ninth goal of the season.

On 38 minutes Orrell turned provider again when he flicked the ball on for Wil Shaw to run through and finish calmly past the keeper with his 13th goal of the campaign.

And two minutes later Consett were firmly in control when Ben Ramsey won the ball on the edge of the Cleethorpes box from Dan Capewell’s pass, and fired home to make it 3-0. It was also his ninth goal of the season.

Consett’s debutant keeper Kelechi Chibueze, on loan from Sunderland U21s, had to pick the ball from the back of his net five minutes into the second half as Max Adamson reduced the arrears with a header.

But some assured handling from the keeper and determined defending from his back four and those in front of them meant Consett saw the game out reasonably comfortably to win 3-1.
