Consett strengthen their squad by signing defender Dominic Curl

Consett have strengthened their squad with the signing of versatile defender Dominic Curl.

The left-footed 23-year-old has signed from Northern League side Crook Town, but is best known for five years at Shildon.

Dom, who can play left-back or centre-back, has plenty of experience at Northern League and Northern Premier League level.

He made his debut as a 17-year-old for Shildon, and, after a brief loan spell at Tow Law Town, went on to make 167 appearances for the Railwaymen, scoring one goal.

After helping Shildon to the Durham Challenge Cup in 2019 and promotion to the Northerm Premier League in 2021-22, he moved to Marske United in the summer of 2022.

He made seven NPL appearances for the Seasiders before suffering a serious injury in February 2023 which needed surgery.

After signing for Bishop Auckland at the beginning of this season, he joined Crook Town in November, where he proved his form and fitness before Consett made their move.

Dom signed for Consett on Thursday, and goes straight into the squad for today’s game at Hebburn Town.

He is the fourth signing in recent weeks, after midfielder Jake Jensen from Dunston, goalkeeper Keliche Chibueze on loan from Sunderland U21s and forward Charlie Watt from Bishop Auckland.
