Six new opponents for Consett as the NPL East Division for 2024-25 is ratified at league AGM

Consett will face six new opponents during the 2024-25 season after the divisional set-up was ratified at yesterday’s Northern Premier League AGM.

Promotions and relegations from the 2023-24 season were confirmed, and the new 22-club divisions at each level of the NPL agreed.

From the Northern League, Consett will be joined by champions Bishop Auckland, along with Heaton Stannington, who were promoted via the play-offs. Bishops have been regular opponents over many years, but we have only ever met the Stan in friendlies and the FA Cup.

From the NPL Premier Division, Consett will be joined by Bradford Park Avenue, who we have also previously met in the FA Cup and a friendly.

Joining from the Northern Counties East League (NCEL) are two West Yorkshire clubs; champions Emley, who we have only played once before, in the FA Trophy, way back in the 1979-80 season, and Garforth Town, who we have met twice in the FA Vase.

Finally, Sherwood Colliery, who we have never met before, step up to the NPL after being crowned champions of the United Counties League Premier Division North.

Four clubs have departed for pastures new; champions Hebburn Town and play-off winners Stockton Town for the NPL Premier Division, Winterton Rangers relegated back to the NCEL, and Grantham Town have been moved into NPL Division One Midlands.

Carlton Town failed in a bid to also be moved into the Midlands division, while Brighouse Town were reprieved from relegation, despite finishing second-bottom of the East division last season.

League fixtures for 2024-25 are expected to be released in mid-July, with the NPL kicking off on Saturday 10 August – a week after the FA Cup.
