Loan signing Lucas Lowery shone for Consett on his home debut today as they beat the division’s bottom club Hallam 4-0 at Belle View.
The 19-year-old wide man, who joined from Gateshead last week, came on as a sub midway through the first half, scored twice and was only denied a hat-trick by an offside flag.
Lucas Lowery opened the scoring in the 34th minute, latching onto Matty Todd’s through ball and rounding the keeper before finishing into the empty net.
Lowery, pictured top, almost made it two on the stroke of half-time, when his snapshot from the edge of the box fizzed inches wide.
He thought he had a second goal nine minutes into the second half, only to be ruled offside, before having what looked a good penalty shout turned down as Hallam skipper Jack Dando went through him from behind.
Hallam had their best spell of the game without seriously troubling home keeper Harry Moss, then had their keeper Hugo Warhurst, making his first appearance of the season, to thank for a fine low save from Todd.
But on 73 minutes there was nothing Warhurst could do to prevent Matty Todd making it 2-0, firing in his first goal of the season after Donny Holdsworth’s initial effort was blocked.
Two minutes from time Lucas Lowery beat the offside trap again, latching onto Calvin Smith’s lofted pass and keeping his cool to beat the keeper and make it three.
A minute later Oli Thompson, who ran Lowery close for man of the match, fired home after being fed by Liam Colledge to take Consett’s goal tally to 10 in two home games.
