Report
Consett extended their unbeaten run to five games in league and cup with a commanding second-half performance at Belle View.
The first half was tepid, with few clear-cut chances, but the torrential rain and thunder and lightning didn’t help. The second half was a different story, with all five goals scored in the space of 14 minutes.
Consett took the lead on 52 minutes when Jack Gibbons surged forward from midfield and released Wil Shaw, who buried a shot in the top corner from just inside the box.
Five minutes later it was all square as Sheffield centre-back Alfie Smith thumped home a header from Rory Coleman’s right-wing corner.
Consett regained their lead almost immediately from the restart, as Shaw turned in the box and found Zak Atkinson, who bundled the ball home from close range.
On 61 minutes it was 3-1 when Ben Ramsey broke clear and saw his shot saved by Sheffield keeper Jordan Pierrepont, but Wil Shaw was on hand to tap home the rebound.
And five minutes later the game was ended as a contest when the excellent Jack Gibbons hit a first-time strike from 20 yards which beat the keeper with the help of a deflection.
- The 271 crowd saw a little piece of history being made as Calvin Smith played his 458th game for Consett, taking him to third in the club’s all-time appearances list.
