Consett’s search for a first win of the season went on after they suffered more late heartbreak in a 2-1 home defeat by Ossett United.

It was a repeat of the scoreline in last season’s meeting ‘s Belle View meeting between the sides, and left the Steelmen in the bottom four of NPL Division One East, while Ossett climbed to 16th.

Consett gave a debut to goalkeeper Harry Moss, signed on loan from National League neighbours Gateshead, and had another new signing, David Allason, on the bench.

But there was little that Moss – the fourth different keeper in the last four games – could do to prevent Ossett taking the lead on 33 minutes when a defensive error let in Eddie Church to slip the ball past him.

Ossett, boosted by four midweek signings, almost doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time, but Moss tipped Shaun Tuton’s shot onto the bar.

Half-time: Consett 0 Ossett United 1

Consett were forced into a change for the second half, with Kaleb Young replacing knee injury victim Bel Rodrigues.

Consett levelled on 52 minutes when Isaac Walker’s shot was saved by Ossett’s debutant keeper Aleksandar Petrovic, but the ball was recycled by Wil Shaw for Ben Ramsey to fire home from 20 yards.

The goal failed to galvanise Consett, and Ossett thought they had regained the lead through an Adam Watson header, but it was ruled out for a push.

The Yorkshire side’s winner came in the first minute of added time when sub Harry Lynn scored with a near-post header from Tuton’s cross.

Consett almost snatched a point in the minute when Ramsey’s 20-yarder hit the bar, but Ossett hung on for a win they deserved for a battling away performance.
