Consett beat Ashington 3-2 at Belle View Stadium to take their unbeaten run under new manager Jason Miller to four games.

Donny Holdsworth almost put them ahead after two minutes with a header from Ben Ramsey’s cross, but was denied by a super save by ex-Steelman Dan Staples.

They took the lead on 12 minutes when Isaac Walker was fouled in the penalty area, and although Staples saved Liam Colledge’s penalty, Marc Costello reacted first to head home.

Ashington – who also included former Consett players Charlie Exley, Gary Ormston and Matty Slocombe in their side – levelled with a penalty of their own a minute before half-time when Jack Camarda scored from the spot after Michael Ndiweni was tripped.

Consett restored their lead three minutes into the second half when Jordan Patterson’s through ball left Donny Holdsworth with just the keeper to beat and he finished with aplomb from an acute angle.

And on 72 minutes it was 3-1 when sub Jake Jensen scored from close range with his first touch from Walker’s ball across the six-yard box.

Ashington gave themselves hope when Andrew Johnson fired home after a free-kick resulted in a goalmouth scramble on 79 minutes.

Consett had Will Constantin sent off for a second yellow card in the 86th minute, but hung on for their first home win in 10 games, stretching all the way back to March.
