Consett Under-18s were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup in agonising fashion tonight, suffering a penalty shootout defeat to Chester-le-Street United.
The young Steelmen had made it through two rounds to get the 1st Qualifying Round, scoring eight goals in the process in away wins at Sunderland RCA and Carlisle City.
But the goals dried up at a blustery Belle View, and a hard-fought game between Consett and their visitors ended 0-0 after 90 minutes.
That meant the game went straight to penalties, and goalkeeper Kieran Harwood was Chester-le-Street’s hero, saving two Consett kicks to help his side to a 4-2 shootout success.
