Consett Ladies aim to deliver on promotion push as they prepare to face Amazons

Consett Ladies move into the second half of their league season on Sunday as they host Chester-le-Street Amazons Women at Belle View following last week’s five-star performance and 5-0 win over Darlington FC Women.

At the halfway point, with 10 games played, the Steelers are still one of only two teams left unbeaten in the league, with the Amazons arriving at Belle View with one win and two draws in their last five games, but unbeaten in the last three.

Consett are currently 13 points ahead of their opponents, who are 6th with a game in hand, but manager Matt Gatiss knows that the Amazons can be tricky opponents regardless of either team’s position.

“They are the only team besides Sunderland who we have dropped points to this season, and both teams know each other well. They make games difficult and always push teams to be their best to take three points from them.

“We do go into the game with confidence, and we can reflect on a strong first half of the season in both results and performances.

“Working with this group of players is always a pleasure, and it has been great watching them progress from our very first game together last year to the current run and our historic FA Cup journey earlier in the season.

“Full credit to the whole squad’s amazing and professional approach to the work that we put in on the training ground, and we are working hard to maintain this momentum.

“As always we have to give a massive shout out to our amazing support, and we hope to bring more thrills in the race towards a promotion push.”

Consett Ladies aim to make it a Darlo double and avenge cup defeat as they return to Belle View

Consett Ladies are back at Belle View this weekend hoping to make it a Darlo double as they entertain Darlington FC Women following Sunday’s victory 4-2 over Darlington Spraire Ladies.

The Steelers remain one of only two teams left unbeaten in the league, with the Quakers arriving at Belle View with a win and two draws in their last five games.

The Steelers are currently 12 points ahead of their opponents, who are 7th, but the visitors have two games in hand.

Consett Ladies manager Matt Gatiss knows that despite their current league position, Darlington are a danger to any team on their day.

They recently beat his side on penalties in the quarter-final of the County Cup after a dramatic 3-3 draw at Belle View.

“I have no doubts that towards the end of the season, Darlington will be one of the promotion candidates around the top end of the table,” said Gatiss.

“We have already seen this year how dangerous they are in attack, but we also know the threat that we have up front, and scoring four at the weekend as well as having a goal disallowed and hitting the bar three times gives us confidence in our own strengths.

“However, we need to tighten up at the back from our last few performances and we are definitely going to need to be at our best at both ends of the pitch to get all three points.”

Kick off this Sunday is 2pm at Belle View, with free admission.

Consett Ladies aim to put pressure on the league leaders by winning on their travels

Consett Ladies AFC are back in league action on Sunday as they travel to Darlington Spraire Ladies following a week off due to the weather.

The Steelers are in good form going into the game, being the one of only two teams left unbeaten in the league, with Darlington Spraire going through a rough patch of form, with only win in their last five games.

The Steelers are currently three points ahead of their opponents, who are 3rd, but have five games in hand, and manager Matt Gatiss knows that a win is needed on Sunday to keep the pressure on league leaders Sunderland AFC Women U23s.

“The longer away days in the league are always tough games, but we hope to go down and impose our style of play to bring the three points back to Belle View,” he said.

“At this point in the season the games are going to come thick and fast, and the quality in this league means that we need to be on top of our game every week.”

The Steelers have a couple of players away this weekend, so there will be opportunities for other players to step up to the mark in a season where the full squad will be needed!

Kick off on Sunday is 2pm at Hummersknott Academy (DL3 8AR), with free admission.
