Consett get a home draw v Maltby Main as we enter this season’s FA Vase competition

Consett have been handed a home tie against South Yorkshire side Maltby Main as we enter this season’s FA Vase competition.

We enter at the 2nd Round stage after reaching the 2019-20 final, and ties were due to take place on Saturday 28 November.

However, the forthcoming second national lockdown means that will have to be rearranged.

Maltby Main are from Rotherham, and play in the Premier Division of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League (NCEL). They are currently 6th, and unbeaten away from home.

They have already played a Northern League club in this year’s FA Vase, beating Newcastle University 3-1 in the 1st Round.

We have faced many NCEL sides in national cup competitions over the years, but this will be our first-ever meeting with Maltby Main.

Ourselves and fellow finalists Hebburn Town find ourselves in the unusual position of entering the 2020-21 FA Vase competition before we have played last season’s final. There’s no new information on when that might be, though The FA remains committed to holding the final at Wembley.

Other 2nd Round ties involving Northern League sides are:

Guisborough Town v Liversedge

Hebburn Town v North Shields

Stockton Town v Charnock Richard or Ashington

Jarrow v Warrington Rylands

Ryhope CW v Abbey Hey or Hemsworth MW

Barnton or Bacup Borough v Seaham Red Star

Hallam or AFC Blackpool v Shildon

1874 Northwich v West Auckland Town

Consett face trip to NCEL side Winterton Rangers in the FA Vase

Consett have been handed an away trip to Winterton Rangers from the Toolstation Northern Counties East League in the 1st Round of this season’s FA Vase.

It is the first-ever meeting between the clubs, and the tie at the Hammond Homes Stadium will take place on Saturday, 12 October.

Winterton is near Scunthorpe, and they play in the 1st Division of the NCEL (the equivalent of the Northern League 2nd Division).Last season they finished 4th.

They are currently 2nd in the table, with 15 points from six games, which have brought five wins and just one defeat.

Rangers reached the 1st Round by winning 2-0 at fellow NCEL Division One side AFC Emley in the 2nd Qualifying Round at the weekend.

Consett will be running a coach to the game for players and officials, and a limited number of seats will be available to supporters wishing to travel to North Lincolnshire.

The cost is not yet known, so anyone wishing to book a provisional place should leave their name at the clubhouse.

  • The FA Vase tie means our scheduled league game at home to Seaham Red Star has been postponed. It has been rearranged for Tuesday 26 November.
